Paritosh Sen

The late Paritosh Sen was born in Dhaka, Bangladesh in 1918 into a noted Ayurved's family and went on to live and work in Calcutta. After finishing school, Sen ran away from home to join the Madras Art School headed by Devi Prasad Roy Choudhury. In 1943 he, along with his friends, formed the Calcutta group. In 1949, Sen left for Europe. In Paris, he studied at Andre Lhote's school, Academie Grand Chaumier, Ecole des Beaux Arts and Ecole des Louvre where he studied the history of painting. A meeting with Picasso left a deep impression on him.

Between 1981-82, Sen was Artist-in-Residence at Maryland Institute of Art, Baltimore, after which in 1985, Sen was invited by the NID, Ahmedabad to be an artist-in-residence
