Sherwan Rozan
Sherwan Rozan (b. 1989) is a Graphic Artist from Johor Bahru, Malaysia. After graduating with a Marketing Communication Degree (Hons) in Kuala Lumpur, he worked in various industries such as e-commerce merchandising and fashion retailing before teaching himself the basics of graphic design that would essentially develop his body of work in art.
Drawn to overlooked details in spaces, structures and objects that would otherwise seem mundane, Sherwan contemplates these trivialities and conceptually constructs them as his subjects in an almost compulsive manner to bring into being his own abstract interpretation. He creates these metaphorical spaces and patterns as a way of inviting the viewer into his frame of thought processes and ideas. A systematic approach in Sherwan’s body of work would consists of de-contextualizing the idea or feeling into representational elements and reconstructing them using geometrical shapes, in relation to having the utmost basic level of interaction. Generally, he builds imaginary frameworks in his head in the absence of living things, inhibited by the present existence – it is this idea of manufacturing intention or purpose as a reminder of what is or was significant.
Seeing that his body of work is mainly digital, he continuously looks for other mediums to materialising his works. Sherwan has produced numerous art prints, murals, merchandise collaborations and many more. He has worked with countless of corporate and commercial clients and collaborated with various brands and companies both locally and internationally.
