Dennis Montera
Dennis “Sio” Montera is a visual artist and university art professor from the Philippines. Graduated from the University of the Philippines with a Bachelor in Fine Arts and Master in Fine Arts, Sio continues to teach at University of the Philippines Cebu while participating in art fairs and solo and collective exhibitions.
Sio harbours his own brand of process-oriented abstraction in his works, experimenting with industrial techniques and processes that translates onto the canvas with acrylic and non-traditional media. To him, it is important that “the act of painting would become a direct phenomenon that would, in turn, lead to self-discovery”. His works are therefore built towards an open composition, often comprising dynamic and unrepressed slabs of colour that seem to expand beyond the framing edges, as if the pictorial space was merely a section chosen at random.
Sio is currently completing his Doctoral degree in Creative Industries Design from National Cheng Kung University in Tainan, Taiwan.
