The late Paritosh Sen was born in Dhaka, Bangladesh in 1918 into a noted Ayurved's family and went on to live and work in Calcutta. After finishing school, Sen ran away from home to join the Madras Art School headed by Devi Prasad Roy Choudhury. In 1943 he, along with his friends, formed the Calcutta group.
